Located in the municipality of Papantla, at the top of the hill of the bell tower is the monument to the Volador. It is 18 meters high and was built in 1988.
At the foot of the Volador Monument there is a plaque called “Mensajeros del Sol” (Messengers of the Sun), which tells the meaning of the ritual of the Voladores de Papantla, an invocation to the fertility of the fields.
From where it is located, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a panoramic view of downtown Papantla and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption.
Design
This sculpture is also a design by Teodoro Cano, made in homage to the bird-men who carry out this fertility rite. It consists of the caporal of the cuadrilla who plays the flute and the drum.
