On the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and only 32 km from Poza Rica, the municipality of Cazones has a great attraction which are its almost virgin beaches, apart from other activities and the gastronomy of the region that are worth a visit to this destination.
Visit its beaches
Cazones, has several beaches, the best known and most popular is Barra de Cazones and Chaparrales where you can spend the whole day and enjoy some local food, seafood, oysters in their shells, manjar empanadas, piñas locas, mango with chili, prepared coconut and much more.
Other beaches you can find a little further south of Barra de Cazones are Playa Azul and Playa Boquilla in Rancho Nuevo.
Turtle Release
On Chaparrales beach we can find the Totonacapan camp, where you can participate in the release of turtles as long as it is turtle nesting season which occurs from May to September, an activity for all ages.
Central Park
In the center is the main park, which although not very big, has picturesque landscapes as its central kiosk, and in the surroundings you will find excellent options for snacks, tacos and grilled corn.
Also, from here you can hire cabs that can take you to the beach or a few blocks from the raft that crosses the river to make it easier to get to Chaparrales beach.
Farallon Islet
Another attraction for tourists visiting the Cazones Bar is to rent a boat and travel along the river, where you can visit the Farallon Islet a few meters from the mouth of the Cazones River. Here you can see migratory birds and a lot of vegetation up to the mangrove area, while listening to the stories of pirates and treasures that are said to have sailed through the area.
Gastronomy
Along the beaches and near the bar, you will find inexpensive options to enjoy dishes such as shrimp, octopus in its ink, seafood soup, as well as seafood in tamarind sauce, which is the specialty of cazones.
